Natural History Museum Rijeka

The Rijeka Museum of Natural History is located within the Nikola Hosta Park, it is the first regional museum in the Rijeka area, founded in 1876. when dr. Joseph Roman Lorenz created its concept according to Vienna’s Naturhistoriches Museum. At first it was a collection that is an integral part of the City Museum, but since 1945 operates as an independent institution with a rich fund at today’s location, which housed a zoo and an aquarium until the 1960s. Today, the museum is oriented towards marine research, and it also has a specialized library in the fields of biology, geology and paleontology. The visitor can enjoy rich collections and a permanent exhibition that represents the geological past of the Adriatic, the methodology of oceanographic research, minerals, marine invertebrates, sharks and rays, a multimedia aquarium center, reptiles and amphibians of the Rijeka area.
